Mike Montgomery Goes off in bend oregon
The Central Oregon Trail Alliance “Freeride” Fundraiser was a true success. By teaming up with Taow Production’s “Wham Bam Thank You Jam” series, thousands of dollars were raised to develop freeride trials in the Bend Oregon trail network. I know every press release says this, but I am actually telling the truth. This Wham Bam Thank You Jam was going off.
Red Bull energy drink donated some much needed financial support that was spent on the construction of a new freeride feature that, will forever, stand in the Deschutes National Forest. It has appropriately been named, Red Bull Rock.
Hundreds showed up to watch the show on all natural terrain. There was NO dimensional lumber and Red Bull Rock was built by clearing a landing and re-shaping an already existing natural lava out cropping. Mike Montgomery stole the show by throwing a monstrous tail whip off the natural lava launcher.
Mike slayed it all day long. He did not hold back even once. His great vibe and energy was welcomed by all the locals who shared the stoke with this San Diego based rider.
On the note of older ams, Chris Jordon and Beau The Hucker rounded out the top three. Both of them would roll out with Dakine luggage kits and Yakima Racks.
Pro BMX’er Robbie Wright showed up on big wheels and easily won the Style Award. The guy is just so dang casual and rad to watch. He rode everything on a single speed hard-tail. He drove back to Seattle with a sick Yakima HookUP hitch rack system. Now he is double stylin’.
Beau from Hutch’s Bikes in Bend won the Guinea Pig award for being the first ever to launch Red Bull Rock.
The Overall Most Awesome Grom award was earned by Carson and Austin (tie). Bryce, Dillon and Trevor rounded out the top 5 Groms. The Groms were actually quite impressive. They hung out with our guest coaches, Eric Porter and Phil Sundbaum, and clearly took advantage of the pro vibe. They were ripping.
Every rider went home with some new headphones from Skull Candy. All of the top finishers scored some new Dakine Gloves and luggage. About $1500 in prize money landed in the hands of Mike Montgomery and Robbie Wright. That cash was made possible by Haro Bikes and Yakima Racks. We also made a small donation to Ross Measures, who on his first warm up run, slid out and dislocated his elbow. Nothing serious, but he was out for the day. The Wham Bam Thank You Jam flowed him $200 to help with gas money back to Canada.
Prize packages included parts kits from Atomlab, Deity Components, and FSA Gravity. Riders went home well hooked up.
Mack Mchone was awarded a complete Giant STP single speed dirt jumper for being the “Hottest Ripper, With The Junkiest Bike”.
When all the beer had flowed, and the Central Oregon Trail Alliance counted all of their donations, the show stopper was still Mike Montgomery. He went back to San Diego with some cash and a trip to the Camp Of Champions up in Whistler BC. Not to mention his bike will now be kitted out with sick FSA and Atomlab stuff. He even scored some new Dakine luggage to help him make the trip up north.
We owe some big HIGH FIVES to all of our partners who made the day a total success.

I did forget to mention that we did some testing for DVS Footwear. Hmmmm? Could be a place for them in this mix. The all leather models are nice and firm for pedals. I was impressed. Look out Nike 6.0, you might be in a little trouble?
Also, our late night after party with Tuck and Roll opening for the Super Sonic Soul Pimps was AMAZING. The 2am mission proved to even raise more money as we rocked and raffled off a HARO cruiser for freeride trails in Central Oregon.
Love Jaymo.
